Wilson was traveling to visit a friend when shots rang out, causing her to initially fear that she had struck someone instead. A Decline in Overall Crime?

Despite the alarming rise in specific road rage incidents, Shreveport reported a substantial decrease in violent crime rates for the first half of 2025. According to reports from the Shreveport Times, homicides have seen a remarkable 43% reduction compared to the previous year, and shots fired calls have also dropped. In total, there were 1,021 calls for shots fired, marking a 53% decline in shootings.

However, not all crime statistics are encouraging. Sex crimes have seen an increase of nearly 12%, raising concerns among residents about safety. The Shreveport Police Department has also been proactive in seizing over 500 firearms this year, striving to curb the violence impacting the community. Still, the city wrestles with a daunting reality: Shreveport’s crime rate stands at 52 per one thousand residents, making it one of the highest in the nation. The likelihood of falling victim to a violent or property crime is one in 19, a statistic that no community can ignore, as indicated by data from Neighborhood Scout.
