Kissimmee, Florida, United States - As the City of Kissimmee gears up for its annual celebration of Juneteenth, a significant proclamation was made during a city commission meeting on June 18, 2025. The city recognized June 19, 2025, as a day to honor freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality for African Americans. This proclamation was presented to the NAACP of Osceola County, underscoring the community’s commitment to historical awareness and inclusivity.

Juneteenth, which commemorates June 19, 1865, is a poignant reminder of when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their emancipation—over two years following the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The Osceola County Branch 5121 NAACP is hosting a Juneteenth Festival at Kissimmee Lakefront Park on Saturday from 12-5 p.m. Attendees can look forward to live music, delicious food, a Kids Zone, and nearly 40 vendors! Deloris McMillon, President of the NAACP Osceola Branch, highlighted that the community has been celebrating Juneteenth for the last seven years, with proclamations issued for the holiday for the past five. The city of Kissimmee along with the Kissimmee Utility Authority are proud sponsors of this year’s event, reaffirming their dedication to fostering an inclusive environment.
