Inspiring Veterans: Johnny Joey Jones to Share Resilience at PASWFL Event

On March 20, 2025, the Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida (PASWFL) is set to host its highly anticipated annual fundraising event titled “A Step Forward: Overcoming Obstacles.” Taking place at the LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in Naples at 11:30 a.m., this event promises not just inspiration, but also a chance to support a crucial cause.

One of the highlights of the event will be a keynote speech from Staff Sgt. (Ret.) Johnny “Joey” Jones, a decorated combat veteran and double amputee. Jones, who will share his remarkable experiences and insights on resilience and community strength, has a story that resonates deeply with many. After all, the journey from the battlefield to a life of advocacy demonstrates the spirit of overcoming challenges.

About Johnny “Joey” Jones

Born in Dalton, Georgia, Jones joined the U.S. Marine Corps after attending Dalton State College. His service included a deployment as a machine gunner in Iraq, followed by a critical role in Explosive Ordnance Disposal in Afghanistan. His dedication to disarming IEDs took a tragic turn in 2010 when he stepped on an explosive device, resulting in the loss of both legs and severe injuries to his arms. Following extensive recovery, he embraced new paths, ultimately becoming a Fox News Contributor and engaging with veterans‘ affairs and advocacy through his company, JJJ Consulting. Jones is known for his commitment to improving the lives of veterans, making him a fitting figure to speak at an event focused on overcoming health challenges, such as Parkinson’s Disease.Sentinels of Freedom highlights his achievements and ongoing work, illustrating the impact one individual can have on many.

Supporting Parkinson’s Patients

As PASWFL strives to assist individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s Disease, this event serves as a crucial fundraiser. The organization has been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those affected for over 25 years, providing a range of weekly programs and educational initiatives. Event attendees can choose between individual registration for $350, which includes a gourmet three-course meal and keynote presentation, or a VIP package for $500 that adds perks like a pre-event reception and exclusive opportunities with Jones. All proceeds from this initiative will directly support PASWFL’s mission to offer valuable resources and solid support to the community.

Parkinson’s Disease affects roughly one million people in the U.S., a situation made more complex for many veterans who may have been exposed to harmful substances during military service. It’s estimated that over 110,000 veterans with Parkinson’s currently receive care through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Many of them contend with challenges stemming from their service, and early diagnosis can significantly improve their chances for effective treatment. For veterans in need of support, the VA and the Parkinson’s Foundation offer a wealth of resources that can make a tangible difference in their lives. The Parkinson’s Foundation emphasizes the critical importance of accurate diagnosis for accessing treatments and improving quality of life.

As the community gears up for this significant event, there’s a feeling of camaraderie and hope. Not only will participants have the chance to listen to Jones’s inspiring story, but they will also rally together to make a difference in the lives of many dealing with Parkinson’s Disease. The registration deadline is February 27, and for more details, interested attendees can visit PASWFL.org or call 239-417-3465.
