Bay County's Summer Shifts: New Attractions and Closures Unveiled!
Bay County, Florida, is seeing an exciting summer full of new openings and a few farewells as the local business landscape continues to evolve. From restaurants to credit unions, the community is buzzing with fresh developments. As of August 29, 2025, there are significant changes that residents should know about.
In a bittersweet turn of events, Claire’s at Pier Park may face closure unless a buyer steps forward. This comes alongside a wave of new attractions and dining experiences that have launched in the area, sparking both excitement and nostalgia among locals. Among the highlights, Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show recently opened its doors, bringing a delightful experience featuring a special visit from none other than Dolly Parton, reminiscent of Florida’s vibrant entertainment scene.
New Arrivals and Closures
Panama City Beach has also welcomed Topgolf, adding to its array of entertainment activities, while the community bids farewell to Gulf World Marine Park, which has closed amid ongoing investigations and protests. The popular Brass Tap, a staple in Pier Park for ten years, has permanently shut its doors, marking the end of an era.
On a brighter note, Panama City Coffee Co. is expanding with plans to launch a second location in Bay County, alongside Cahall’s Deli, which has also opened a new spot in Lynn Haven. These new ventures add to the lively culinary options available to residents and visitors alike. Additionally, the Palmetto Moon retail store is now open in Pier Park, continuing the trend of enticing shopping experiences in the area.
Community Development Initiatives
As local businesses shift, so too does the financial landscape. PenAir Credit Union recently made headlines by breaking ground on a new branch in Panama City Beach, marking its first location in Bay County. The event drew members from the Bay County and Panama City Beach Chambers of Commerce, including Mayor Stuart Tettemer. The facility aims to provide enhanced banking experiences with modern technology and member advisors, catering to the financial needs of the community. Expected to open in spring or early summer next year, this new branch symbolizes the credit union’s commitment to community service and support, as emphasized by PenAir President and CEO Delbert Lee Morgan and Market Executive Rebekah Vassar.
Meanwhile, efforts to bolster Bay County’s economic development are underway, with NextSite collaborating with the Bay County Chamber to identify retail opportunities that can enrich the local economy. With expertise in commercial development and access to strategic partners, NextSite aims to boost the retail tenant mix, which could lead to a stronger tax base and revitalized commercial spaces. Chuck Branch, a Managing Partner at NextSite, brings extensive experience, having worked with over a thousand cities and businesses across the country to facilitate successful development projects.
As the summer winds down, Bay County stands at a crossroads of change with a mix of new opportunities and nostalgic farewells. Local residents can look forward to an evolving economy and vibrant community life amidst these developments. With dedicated efforts from businesses and local leaders, there’s certainly something to be said for the future of this charming area.
