FAMU's Royal Court Shines at National HBCU Kings & Queens Conference!

Florida A&M University (FAMU) has turned heads at the recent HBCU Kings & Queens Conference, where its royal court shined brightly among the illustrious attendees. As reported by WCTV, this four-day summit, a vibrant gathering of newly elected royalty from HBCUs across the nation, took place in New Orleans from August 1-4, 2025.

FAMU’s victories were nothing short of impressive, with the royal court bagging multiple awards, including Best Dressed, Best Dressed Queen, and Best King and Queen Photo. The event, which highlights the leadership and elegance of HBCU royalty, serves as a stage for students to showcase their accomplishments and network with peers.

Royalty from the Bahamas

This year, a delegation from the Bahamas also made a significant impact at the conference. EW News noted that four queens and six kings, representing institutions like the University of The Bahamas and Alabama A&M University, gathered to participate in this illustrious event. They didn’t just attend; they brought their vibrant spirits and leadership skills to the fore.

A highlight of the conference was The Masquerade Ball, a dazzling showcase that celebrated the presence of international students. The conference aimed to cultivate leadership and etiquette skills for students holding titles of Miss or Mister at their respective colleges. Participants were armed with the opportunity to network and gain insights from seasoned professionals on topics like articulation and stage presence.

Leadership Development and Networking

The emphasis on leadership training during such events cannot be overstated. The importance of fostering skills in young leaders from HBCUs is vital, as highlighted by Unite HBCU. Their annual Student Leadership Conference has become a hub for over 3,400 registrants from more than 65 institutions, offering sessions that help secure internships and even grant opportunities for student-led organizations.

The conferences invite students to „reimagine traditional leadership,“ incorporating new practices that promote equitable policies and challenge norms at both campuses and within communities. This is especially pertinent as the 2024 theme, „Leadership Reimagined,“ aims to encourage innovation and inclusivity among students.

In a world where leadership continues to evolve, the engagement efforts sparked by FAMU and participating institutions remind us that there’s something to be said for developing skilled leaders. These conferences and the recognition achieved by royal courts pave the way for ambitious young adults ready to take on the challenges of today.“
