1550 South Highway 29, Cantonment, Florida, USA - In a heartwarming display of community spirit, local first responders are taking part in the Donut Strike for Manna, a food drive aimed at combatting hunger in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Today, June 26, 2025, community members can support this effort between 3 and 6 p.m. by donating generously at various grocery stores across the region. The participation of our local fire and police departments highlights their commitment not just to our safety, but also to the well-being of those in need.

Participating agencies, including Escambia County Fire Rescue, Gulf Breeze Fire and Rescue, and the Pensacola Police Department, are all joining forces to make a difference. From Cantonment to Gulf Breeze, the call for donations resonates. Collection spots include Winn Dixie on Highway 29 and two Publix locations—on Nine Mile Road and University Parkway. The complete list of donation locations is available through North Escambia, making it easy for everyone to contribute.

What’s the Donut Strike All About?

So, what exactly is this Donut Strike? Over the course of three days—June 25 to 27—our local first responders will „go on strike“ against their favorite treats to rally support for Manna. Presented by Hanto + Clarke General Contractors and PenAir Credit Union, the goal is clear: to collect truckloads of nutritious food donations. This represents a unique and playful take on raising awareness about hunger issues right in our backyards.

As reported by Manna, donations can not only be made at the grocery store but also directly at the Manna location any day during the week of the Strike from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This flexibility allows everyone to get involved and make a meaningful impact.

A Community Effort

The collaboration of local organizations is crucial in addressing food insecurity. One group doing exemplary work in this area is Move For Hunger, an initiative that partners with over 1,200 professional moving companies across the US and Canada. They educate customers on hunger and food waste issues in their communities, encouraging them to set aside non-perishable items during their relocations. These donations are packed and delivered to local food banks at no cost, showcasing just how interconnected our efforts can be in fighting hunger.

Every little bit makes a difference, and the involvement of our community’s first responders reminds us of the significant role they play beyond their daily duties. So head out today, grab your groceries, and lend a helping hand to this important cause. Together, we can ensure that no one has to face hunger alone.
