World Premiere of Ghost Fetus Unveils Haunting Tale at Trap Door Theatre

As the curtain rises on another bustling season in Chicago, Trap Door Theatre is set to delight audiences with a captivating World Premiere. The play titled „Ghost Fetus,“ penned by local playwright Suz Evans and directed by Anna Klos, opens on September 11th and runs through September 27th, 2025, at their venue on 1655 W Cortland St. This production marks the beginning of the theatre’s 32nd season and promises to be a compelling addition to the local arts scene.

„Ghost Fetus“ delves into a rich tapestry of themes, intertwining the supernatural with the personal. The narrative features a ghost seeking revenge, set against the backdrop of a church rife with contradictions. At the heart of the story are two queer teenagers grappling with their faith, fear, and desire, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary issues. The production is not only bold in its storytelling but also emphasizes inclusivity and representation.

Supporting Emerging Talent

The spirit of innovation and support for new voices is echoed in the larger theater community as well. Organizations such as Subtext Studio Theatre Company are committed to fostering the next generation of talent. Founded by Omar Vicente Fernandez and other UIC students in 2021, Subtext Studio aims to create opportunities for emerging BIPOC artists to gain much-needed professional experience in theatre. Fernandez himself, a Mexican American artist with nearly a decade of experience, leads this initiative. The synergy created through his collaboration with Jean Gottlieb has crafted a promising platform for new theatrical works, flourishing right alongside productions like „Ghost Fetus.“

The local arts scene is undeniably vibrant as theaters like Trap Door and Subtext Studio work to create compelling narratives and support diverse voices. As we look forward to the commencement of „Ghost Fetus,“ it’s clear that the intersection of culture, community, and creativity continues to shape Chicago’s theatrical landscape. Mark your calendars for this unique production, and prepare to be captivated by the depth of its storytelling.
