Recently, the Meghalaya Taekwondo Association (MTA) had a significant General Body Meeting in Ringregittim, Tura. A central focus of the discussions was refining selection criteria, quotas for athletes, and age and weight categories for district and state levels, according to NE News.

As training and selection trials kick off across multiple districts and continue through September 2025, young talents are being identified to represent Meghalaya at the Games. The MTA is dedicated to ensuring a fair and transparent selection process, collaborating with district units to optimize training and scouting efforts leading up to this monumental event.

The enthusiasm surrounding the National Games isn’t just limited to the associations; the Meghalaya government is stepping up in a big way. Recently, a landmark initiative titled “Grants-in-Aid for Team Preparation” was organized at the State Convention Centre in Shillong. Here, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed the government’s vision to uplift sports in the state, which includes significant financial backing. This initiative comes with a remarkable ₹39.17 crore allocated to 26 state sports associations, a move that’s part of the government’s larger effort to bolster Meghalaya’s sports ecosystem, as detailed by East Mojo.

Chief Minister Sangma hopes Meghalaya athletes aim for at least 50 medals at the Games, with the funding being essential for procuring quality equipment and improving training facilities.
