Tavernier, Florida, USA - This September, Monroe County will witness a heartfelt tribute to its heroic veterans with the inaugural “Southernmost Honor Flight.” The flight, organized by Honor Flight South Florida, is gearing up to honor local veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. On September 6, these brave men and women will embark on a journey to Washington D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to their valor, a chance many have long awaited.

Douglas Hurtubise, a remarkable 91-year-old Korean War veteran, is among the prominent figures participating in this uplifting initiative. Since its inception in 2012, this organization has provided vital services to veterans, including transportation and police escorts in D.C. A military-themed kick-off party will take place at Dillon’s Pub in Tavernier on July 26, encouraging the community to come together to support this noble cause.
