Rene Flowers Takes Charge: New President-Elect of Florida Counties Association

Rene Flowers, a dedicated Pinellas County Commissioner, is stepping into an important leadership role as the President-elect of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC). Flowers, selected for this position, is the first to acknowledge the honor of representing her county while also committing to serve various communities across the state. She has a rich background in the association, having served on its executive committee for the past two years, where she most recently held the title of 1st Vice President. This experience, along with her participation in policy committees like Community & Urban Affairs and Health, Safety & Justice, makes her well-equipped for the tasks ahead.

The FAC, which has been advocating for Florida counties for over 85 years, emphasizes the critical nature of home rule, enabling local leaders to make decisions pertinent to their communities. The association unites the experiences of 377 county commissioners and thousands of county staff members, delivering essential public services ranging from public safety to economic development. With Florida’s population exceeding 20 million, the role of county government has transformed significantly from mere administrative subdivisions to vital entities in the state’s operational framework. Flowers‘ Commitment and Support

Her leadership skills have already drawn praise from peers; Pinellas County Commission Chair Brian Scott expressed strong support for her appointment. “Rene’s leadership and ability to navigate complex issues will serve our communities well,” said Scott, underscoring the confidence emerging from her fellow commissioners.

Ginger Delegal, the Executive Director of the FAC, also spoke highly of Flowers, asserting that her capacity to address multifaceted challenges in county governance will be an enormous asset to the association. The FAC is governed by a board of directors consisting of one county commissioner from each of Florida’s 40 Senate districts alongside various executive officers; this diverse representation underscores the collaborative efforts ongoing within the association.
