Fort Matanzas Beach Access Set for Major Repairs—Public Input Welcome!

Residents and visitors of Fort Matanzas National Monument, located just 14 miles south of St. Augustine, have a chance to get involved in upcoming repairs at the beach ramp and pedestrian access. As per St. Augustine, the National Park Service is currently accepting public comments until July 22. This initiative follows the funding from the 2023 Disaster Supplement bill aimed at enhancing storm resiliency, crucial for the vehicle beach exit ramp at 8634 A1A South. The repairs are much needed, especially considering the challenges the park has faced from hurricanes in recent years.

The project will not only renovate the vehicle ramp but also replace the pedestrian beach access boardwalk. Visitors can review details and comment on the Floodplain Statement of Findings through the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment website. Alternatively, comments can also be mailed to Superintendent Gordon Wilson at the park headquarters, but they must be postmarked by the July 22 deadline.
