Avon Lake, Ohio, USA - This year, the Avon Lake Sports Hall of Fame is rolling out the red carpet for a cadre of stellar athletes and teams with the induction ceremony set for September 20, 2025. Among the distinguished inductees is Matt Dechant, who made waves in shot put and discus. Recognized as First-Team All-Southwestern Conference (SWC), he ranks among the top 50 throwers in the United States. Dechant went on to pursue athletics at The Ohio State University and was even invited to try out for the US Olympic Team—a testament to his hard work and dedication. Alongside him is Annette Ilg, a true three-sport standout, having earned All-SWC honors in track, soccer, and basketball. She represented the University of California, San Diego, and played on the national finalist soccer team.

Another notable inductee is Zach Janicek, who has made his mark in baseball with three All-SWC selections. His baseball journey continued at The Ohio State University, where he contributed to a Big Ten championship team. Tim Schumacher rounds out the roster with impeccable accolades in football, securing two-time All-SWC and All-Ohio recognition. He was even honored as the SWC-MVP and celebrated with the Lorain County Golden Helmet award before heading off to the US Air Force Academy. Lastly, the 1985 ALHS Shoremen Baseball Team, boasting an impressive record of 19-5 and an SWC championship win, is being celebrated for the collaborative effort and talent of its players.
