Local Dreams Realized: Elk Lake and Tunkhannock Shine in Stellar Sports Season

The 2024-25 sports year brought thrilling moments and remarkable achievements for the athletes from Elk Lake, Lackawanna Trail, and Tunkhannock, showcasing not only talent but also the dedication of students and coaches alike. Lackawanna Trail’s football team took center stage this past season, finishing with a commendable 9-1 record after triumphing over Riverside to secure their second consecutive Lackawanna Football Conference Division III title. According to The Times Tribune, they also clinched the District 2-11 Class 1A subregional playoffs, a significant achievement in a year that ushered in a new cycle in the PIAA system. They’ve proven history can repeat itself, given their celebrated track record with 13 District 2 Class 1A championships under their belt since 1999. In swimming, Tunkhannock’s Josh Gaudet shone brightly, finishing the season undefeated and claiming titles in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Elk Lake’s girls swim team also made waves, remaining undefeated and clinching the Lackawanna League title, further adding to the district’s swimming prowess.
