Coral Springs, USA - In a moment that highlights both academic and athletic prowess, two exceptional golfers from the University of Texas at Arlington, Tarini Bhoga and Nitisha Manikandesh, have been named to the 2024-25 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team. This prestigious accolade celebrates their dedication to both their studies and the sport, as they join an impressive roster of 1,499 women’s collegiate golfers from 403 programs recognized for their achievements.

Bhoga, a first-time recipient, and Manikandesh, now celebrated for the second consecutive time, exemplify the high standards set forth by the WGCA, which seeks to underscore the academic success of these student-athletes. To qualify for this honor, contenders must maintain a 3.50 or higher cumulative GPA and compete in at least half of their college’s scheduled rounds during the season. As UT Arlington reports, both golfers have not only played the sport with vigor but have also set impressive academic benchmarks.

A Closer Look at Other Honorees

The stalwart efforts of Bhoga and Manikandesh echo the accomplishments of other talented golfers around the nation. For instance, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor celebrated the achievements of four of its own players on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, including Avery Hill, Allie Ebbeler, Brooke Norman, and Emma Iles. Hill, a senior, graduated with a remarkable GPA of 3.974 in marketing. Notably, she played in eight tournaments, contributing to her team’s successful ASC Championship run. She recorded standout performances, including a best score of 147 (+3) at The Legends Cup, underscoring her prowess on the course and in the classroom.

Ebbeler and Norman are also commendable additions, with Ebbeler boasting a flawless 4.00 GPA during her freshman year. She competed in eight tournaments with impressive results, demonstrating that academics can go hand in hand with athletic performance. Norman, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA as well, enjoyed a solid season, affirming her capabilities as a junior player. Both University of Mary Hardin-Baylor scholar-athletes show that the future of women’s golf is not just bright but exceptionally intelligent.

Triumphant Tides from Northern Arizona

Similarly, three golfers from Northern Arizona University—Lizzie Neale, Frankie Dezis, and Amy Hodgkins—were recognized on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team. Neale, a junior, achieved this honor for the third time, already making her mark as the 2024 Big Sky individual champion with an impressive conference record final round of 64 (-7). Her scoring average of 72.29 across nine events reflects her exceptional talent. Meanwhile, both Dezis and Hodgkins have proven themselves worthy of accolades, with strong averages and achievements in their sophomore year.

Neale’s accomplishments were not only academic; her athletic performances included multiple rounds under par, showcasing that Northern Arizona boasts a wealth of talent among their student-athletes. The inclusion of these scholars on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team reaffirms the intersection of academic achievement and athletic excellence, a theme echoed throughout women’s collegiate golf.

As families and fans alike celebrate these accomplishments, it’s clear that the dedication and commitment of these young women, both on and off the green, are what truly stand out. It’s a testament to the thriving culture of athletic excellence and academic integrity that continues to grow in collegiate sports across the nation.
