Jupiter, FL, USA - In the quiet town of North Falmouth, Massachusetts, residents are mourning the loss of Robert “Bob” Oscar Loring, who passed away at the age of 76 on July 16, 2025. Bob, born in Wareham, MA, to parents Thurley F. (Demoranville) and Robert E. Loring, was a notable figure in both his community and profession.

Raised in Wareham, Bob left his mark at Wareham High School, where he excelled in both football and track before graduating in 1966. His academic journey continued at the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth, culminating in a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970, where he again starred in track. This educational foundation set the stage for a successful career dedicated to clinical pathology.

Career and Passion

Bob’s professional life was deeply rooted in the healthcare sector. He dedicated over 15 years to Tobey Hospital in Wareham as a medical technologist in the blood bank, followed by an impressive 20-year tenure at Massachusetts General Hospital, from which he retired in 2013. His contributions to medical science were invaluable, as friends and colleagues fondly recall his exceptional skills and commitment.

A true artist at heart, Bob was particularly known for his talent in drawing and hand-woven Nantucket baskets adorned with intricate whale bone and ivory carved lids. This creative spirit extended into his hobbies: he was an avid woodworker, crafting fine furniture, wooden handled knives, and household items, earning him the nickname „Mr. Fix It“ in his circles.

Community Involvement

Bob’s passion for community involvement was as strong as his dedication to his profession. He played an integral role at the Monument Beach Sportsman’s Club, where he served as a Board Director for 15 years, overseeing the Trap Field for a decade. His volunteer efforts included coaching novice trap shooters and participating in various charitable events, reflecting a commitment not just to the sport but to the community as a whole. Advocating for gun safety, he instilled in others the importance of responsible firearm handling.

In his retirement, Bob found joy in trap shooting and fishing at the picturesque Cape Cod Canal. He treasured the time spent with his beloved grandchildren, discovering the simple joys of life.

Family Legacy

Bob was not only a dedicated professional but also a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Barrette (Kirkland) Loring, with whom he shared 29 years of marriage. His legacy continues through his children, Karren Meyer from Newfane, VT, and Peter Barrette from Jupiter, FL, as well as his cherished grandchildren—Patrick and Ainsley Meyer and Summer and Ty Barrette.

His brother, Steven Loring of Wareham, along with cousins Sandy Slavin, Diane Fini, and Bette Bushnell, will remember him fondly, each holding onto memories of a life well-lived. Bob’s presence was a beacon of warmth, artistic flair, and community spirit.
