Ormond Beach, FL, USA - Timothy Huth, Sr., a towering figure in Volusia County’s educational landscape, passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 74 in Ormond Beach, Florida. Known for his dedication and longtime service, Huth’s legacy in education stretches over three decades, beginning as a physical education and drivers‘ education teacher at Mainland High School. In an extensive career, he held various roles including mathematics teacher, computer lab coordinator, department chairperson, dean of students, and athletic director, eventually rising to the position of deputy superintendent of Volusia County Schools, a role he maintained from 1997 until his retirement in 2010.

Huth’s commitment to education was recognized widely. Volusia County School Board member Ruben Colón noted his deep connection to the community, while Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick Henry labeled him an „educational giant.“ Huth returned to the principal position at Mainland High School in 2019, stepping in after a scandal for which his predecessor resigned. This move showcased his unwavering dedication to improving the institution he loved.

Community Involvement

Huth’s engagements extended well beyond the classroom. He was actively involved in community organizations, such as the Daytona International Speedway’s Checkered Flag Committee and the Halifax Health Public Relations Committee, helping to promote various community causes. His influence also reached national recognition, as he received educational excellence acknowledgments from Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush over the years, a testament to his commitment to enriching students‘ lives.

His family life was equally full; married to his wife Charmaine for over 52 years, he was a proud father to Timmy and Heidi, and a dedicated grandfather to Joey and Minh. Huth’s passing marks the loss of a beloved figure who nurtured not only minds but also community bonds. He is survived by his wife and family members, including four siblings—Barbara, Jerry, Chris, and Tracy.

Educational Achievements

His tenure saw him mentor new administrators and actively engage in school programs, including broadcasting for Mainland High School Football on WNDB 93.5 FM. His work in the district was characterized by a focus on improving student outcomes, advocating for educational reforms, and sharing his wealth of knowledge with younger educators.

Dr. Julio Nazario-Valle, the Chief Academic Officer in Volusia County Schools, is continuing in Huth’s spirit of educational leadership.
