In Loving Memory: Honoring Art Mann, Veteran and Community Pillar

Pensacola, Florida, USA - Arthur Cobert ‘Art’ Mann, an esteemed veteran and dedicated community member, passed away on June 7, 2025, at the Michigan Veterans Home D.J. Jacobetti in Marquette. He was 80 years old. Born on May 19, 1945, in Pensacola, Florida, Art led a life marked by service and commitment, starting with his time spent in the U.S. Air Force as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. His dedication to both his family and his country was evident throughout his years.
After graduating from Milton High School and earning an associate degree from Northern Michigan University, Art found his calling as a Plant Repairman for Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., where he worked for nearly three decades before retiring from the Tilden Mine in 2007. Beyond his professional life, Art was also known for stepping into various roles as an Emergency Medical Technician and serving on the First Responder Team at Cleveland Cliffs.
Community Involvement and Interests
Art was more than just a worker; he was a pillar in the community. He held membership with the United Steelworkers Union, where he served as Secretary, and he was actively involved with the Ishpeming Township Fire Department. His passion for community service extended to organizations such as the Harley Owners Group and the Seabee Swarm Group. Art also cherished his time at Bethel Lutheran Church. He took great joy in following his four grandsons‘ various activities, spending weekends at camp on the Dead River, and riding his beloved Harley through the Florida sunshine.
Family played a central role in Art’s life. He is survived by his son, Scott ‘Earl’ Mann, and daughter, Kristin (Tom) Knapp, along with his four grandsons: Hayden Mann, Garrett Mann, Marshall Knapp, and Mitchell Knapp. His loyal support for the Alabama football team showcased his spirited nature, and he left behind cherished memories with his brother, David Mann, and his sister, Mary (Don) Carter, not to mention the many friends he made along the way.
Honoring a Legacy
Art’s memorial service is scheduled for June 16th at Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming, with visitation starting at 4:00 pm. This will be followed by a service officiated by Dr. James Elenbaas at 6:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Ishpeming Cemetery with Military Honors from the U.S. Air Force. The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Michigan Veterans Home for their compassionate care.
