Cocoa, Florida, United States - The 31st annual P.J. Wilson and Henry Scott Youth Golf Camp wrapped up with a spirited celebration on Wednesday morning at Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa, Florida. This beloved local event has been a staple in nurturing young golfers, emphasizing both skills and life lessons, and this year was no exception. Almost 90 enthusiastic kids participated over the course of two weeks, where they honed their golf abilities under the watchful eyes of seasoned coaches.

Among the noteworthy highlights of this year’s camp was the awarding of scholarships to two deserving participants: Dominick Piscitelli and Jasper Niehoff. Dominick, who has dedicated twelve summers to this camp, followed in the footsteps of his sister, Gianna Piscitelli, who received the same scholarship back in 2016. He expressed great relief at the financial support, stating, „It’s a significant relief for my family,“ while also underscoring the vital lessons of respect he learned during his time at the camp.

Shaping Futures

Jasper Niehoff, a recent graduate of Space Coast Jr/Sr. High School, also received a scholarship and has plans to pursue studies in digital media at Eastern Florida State College while showcasing his musical talents in the pep band. The stories of these young scholars highlight the camp’s commitment to shaping futures and fostering talent.

The camp, founded in 1992 by former EFSC President Dr. Maxwell King, initially aimed to reach minority youth but has always welcomed players from diverse backgrounds. With ongoing support from current EFSC President Dr. Jim Richey, the EFSC Board of Trustees, and many sponsors, the camp continues to provide valuable opportunities to local youth.

Throughout the camp, participants were separated into three groups: „Tee Titans,“ „Double Eagle Duo,“ and „PJ Wilson Henry Scott Aces,“ each led by different coaches like the long-time mentor Isaac Johnson, who passionately noted the critical role attitude plays in life.

Around the Green

Each group celebrated its members with medallion awards presented for various achievements, showcasing skills beyond just swinging clubs. Awards for “Most Improved,” “Sportsmanship,” and “Best Attitude” encouraged the campers to embrace sportsmanship and personal growth:

  • Tee Titans: Most improved – Liam Watson; Sportsmanship – Lemmon Sulick; Best attitude – Chloe Wartell.
  • Double Eagle Duo: Most improved – Decklyn McIntyre; Sportsmanship – Zeus Rodriguez; Best attitude – Jacob Johns.
  • PJ Wilson Henry Scott Aces: Most improved – China Clark; Sportsmanship – Juan Diego Jordan; Best attitude – Liam Arellano.

In addition to the skills learned at camp, the value of golf is further emphasized through programs like Youth on Course, which allows members aged 18 and under to play at thousands of courses for $5 or less. This initiative serves to make the sport more accessible while providing various programs aimed at fostering success for young players both on and off the golf course.

The enduring legacy of the P.J. Wilson and Henry Scott Youth Golf Camp, enriched by community support and personal dedication, continues to shine brightly, ensuring the future of golf remains in capable hands. As these young golfers drive into their futures, it’s clear there’s something to be said for the lessons they’ve learned—not just on the green, but in life.
