Environmental Initiatives

Environmental enthusiasts will be glad to know that the Collier Mosquito Control District is offering free distributions of mosquitofish this summer. These little fighters can eat up to 100 mosquito larvae per day and are perfect for standing water in swales, abandoned pools, and rain barrels. This program has been running since 2018 and has successfully distributed over 45,000 fish. Upcoming distribution events include July 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sugden Regional Park, and July 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Golden Gate Community Center. Residents can find additional information at the Collier Mosquito Control District.

The mosquitofish program allows residents to pick up fish without an appointment. It’s a practical and environmentally friendly way to manage mosquito populations right in your backyard!

For music lovers, several events are on the horizon. The Twilight Cabaret, featuring Doug Williams, takes place on July 22 at Baker Senior Center, with free admission for those ages 60 and up—just remember to reserve your spot by calling 239-325-4444.
