Ischgl, Austria - A remarkable feat unfolded last weekend as trail runners flocked to the stunning Paznaun Valley for the annual Paznaun Ischgl Ultra-Trail (PIUT). This event brought together about 1,000 enthusiastic participants, all ready to tackle various distances amidst the majestic Tyrolean Alps. As the clouds loomed and rain fell, competitors took on both the elements and the challenging courses set against the breathtaking backdrop of Ischgl.

Among the standout performances was Anna-Maria Michel from the Salomon Running Team. Michel triumphed in the highly competitive „PUIT20“ category, which featured 246 finishers. She completed the demanding 21.5-kilometer course, which included 1,350 meters of vertical ascent, in an impressive time of 2:44:19, leaving her closest rival, Spain’s Inma Zanoguera, trailing at 2:47:30. It’s clear that the Berchtesgadener Land’s local talents are making waves on a larger stage, as noted by PNP.

Champion Performances

Another notable performance came from Stephan Tassani-Prell of SC Ainring, who dominated the Senior-Master category with a stunning 22-minute lead over his nearest competitor. He concluded the course in 2:52:15, securing 18th place overall. The prowess didn’t stop there: Barbara Tassani-Prell also performed commendably, finishing in 4:09:58 and taking 9th place in the women’s 50 category. The age barrier was brilliantly smashed by 71-year-old Helmut Hildebrandt from Piding, who completed the race in 5:08:04, serving as an inspiration for all aspiring runners.

In the ultra-distance challenge, Marion Lobensommer claimed victory in the Women’s 40 category of the „PIUT100“ event, conquering the grueling 100 kilometers and 6,300 meters of elevation while battling cold and rainy weather. Her finishing time of 21:19:23 proves that grit and determination are key in trail running.
