Miami Schools Partner to Boost Arts Education for Every Student!

Miami-Dade County, USA - Miami’s rich cultural landscape is about to be painted with even broader strokes, as a new partnership promises to enhance arts education across Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has teamed up with Arts Access Miami (AAM) in a move that aims to provide every student within the district the opportunity to engage with arts and music education. This initiative was officially set in motion during a signing ceremony held on June 10, 2025.

The backbone of this collaborative effort is Young Musicians Unite (YMU), which manages the program under the support of The Miami Foundation (TMF). As emphasized by Dr. Jose L. Dotres, Superintendent of M-DCPS, arts education is essential not just for cultural enrichment, but for the holistic development of students. The aim is clear: to ensure equitable access to arts resources for all students, no matter their zip code.

A Shared Vision for Arts Education

The initiative is built on a Letter of Understanding (LOU) between M-DCPS and AAM, highlighting a mutual commitment to increase arts programs particularly in schools with the greatest need. This will involve innovative instructional models where nonprofit teaching artists work side-by-side with certified educators, enriching the learning environment.

Furthermore, AAM’s plan includes supporting the professional development of both arts teachers and community instructors, ensuring that they are equipped to deliver high-quality arts education. The initiative also targets the significant shortage of certified arts educators in the district by forming partnerships with local colleges and universities.

To expand its reach, AAM is looking to grow into the Norland and South Ridge feeder patterns, as well as forge alliances across Central, West, and East Miami-Dade by 2028. The potential impact of this expansion is immense, as it seeks to address existing gaps in access to arts education for students.
