Palm Beach, Florida, USA - On March 1, Roberta and Stanley Bogen rolled out the red carpet at their oceanfront residence in Palm Beach, throwing a reception to honor the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) on the occasion of its fifth anniversary in West Palm Beach. Nestled on the historic grounds of Lagomar, designed by Addison Mizner in 1924, the event brought together over 175 guests for an evening filled with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and heartfelt storytelling. Key figures from HSS took the stage to express their commitment to excellence in orthopedic care.

Bryan T. Kelly, MD, the president and CEO of HSS, highlighted the institution’s leadership in the orthopedic arena and reinforced their dedication to patient care and research. Tara McCoy, CEO of HSS Florida, followed suit by announcing exciting plans to expand their footprint in the Sunshine State, including a partnership with Naples Comprehensive Health, a new satellite office in Jupiter, and collaboration with UHealth to create an ambulatory facility at the SoLé Mia complex in North Miami. The event marked a significant step in HSS’s mission to bring top-notch orthopedic services closer to communities across Florida.

Bringing Expertise Closer to Home

For years, countless Floridians have made the trek to HSS in New York City for orthopedic care. Now, HSS Florida is making strides to alleviate that burden by offering state-of-the-art treatments right at home. With a strong backing, HSS has been ranked No. 1 in orthopedics for 15 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report (2024-2025). Their Florida facility in West Palm Beach, along with a partnership at Naples Comprehensive Health, underscores their commitment to providing advanced orthopedic care, including diagnosis, second opinions, nonsurgical treatments, and joint replacements.

Further bolstering this expansion is the groundbreaking of the Patty & Jay Baker Pavilion, which took place on November 10, 2023. This ambitious project, in collaboration with NCH, aims to establish a dedicated musculoskeletal center on the NCH North Naples Hospital campus. Covering more than 80,000 square feet, the center will provide a comprehensive suite of outpatient and inpatient orthopedic services, including an ambulatory surgery center, imaging, and rehabilitation. NCH President & CEO Paul Hiltz emphasized how this new facility will elevate orthopedic care in the region, potentially eliminating the need for patients to travel to New York for treatment.

Community-Driven Initiatives

Heading up the HSS at NCH initiative is David L. Helfet, MD, an esteemed orthopedic trauma surgeon. Dr. Helfet brings a wealth of expertise, specializing in hip conditions and serving as part of HSS’s Hip Preservation Service. The collaboration is driven by the Bakers‘ generous pledge of a $20 million match grant to support orthopedic services, which is set to bolster the already robust offerings available at NCH.

This new center stands as a beacon of hope for many, promising to shape the future of orthopedic care in Southwest Florida and enhance access to innovative treatment options. Those interested in contributing can participate with the confidence that their donations will be matched, amplifying the impact on community health.

With such a solidifying presence in Florida, the Hospital for Special Surgery is not just expanding its footprint; it is enriching the local community with world-class orthopedic expertise. The journey from Palm Beach to Naples and beyond is just getting started, and it looks like the future is bright for orthopedic care in our great state.
