Pensacola, FL, USA - The anticipation is building for the upcoming Foiling Week 2025, set to take place from June 22-29, 2025, in Europe. This will be the twelfth edition of such an exciting event, following its inaugural outing in Pensacola, Florida, in March 2024. The buzz is palpable, with expectations of over 400 participants enjoying a week of high-speed racing and innovation.

Foiling Week will feature five main classes, including Moth, WASZP, Switch One Design, BirdyFish, and ETF26, promising thrilling competition among top-notch sailors. Notable athletes, including Olympic medalists and stars from the America’s Cup and SailGP, will be gracing the waters. Expect precision and excitement as the best take to the surf, alongside a special foiling board program in partnership with the Surf Foil World Tour featuring categories like E-Foil and Pump Foil.

A Packed Agenda

This year’s Foiling Week will see the return of the much-loved „Downwind Race,“ following its success in the previous edition. Additionally, technical partnerships will enhance the experience: Ronstan will be the Technical Partner for the Switch One Design class, while Vakaros supplies tracking technology to gauge top speeds across classes.

The event won’t just revolve around racing. Attendees can look forward to a variety of side activities focused on technology, education, environmental sustainability, and entertainment. Hands-on opportunities to test sail various foiling boats like BirdyFish will also be available to the public, promoting broader engagement with the sport.

Clinics dedicated to youth sailors and female athletes as part of The Magenta Project will further enhance the experience, emphasizing inclusivity and empowerment. Alongside this, there will be environmental initiatives including cleaning activities on Lake Garda, aiming to support local ecosystems. The inaugural Foiling Sport Congress on June 30 and July 1 will invite federations, classes, and industry leaders to discuss the future of competitive foiling.

Pensacola’s Foiling Week Debut

Earlier this year, Pensacola made its mark by hosting the first-ever Foiling Week in the U.S., held from February 24 to March 2, 2025. This event not only celebrated advancements in hydro foiling but also solidified the city’s reputation for maritime innovation, as emphasized by Mayor D.C. Reeves. Timothy Ryschon, President of Sail Pensacola, Inc., along with Luca Rizzotti from We Are Foiling, collaborated to bring this much-anticipated event to life.

The inclusion of multiple racing classes, such as WASZP and International Moth Class, alongside demonstrations and a Foiling Trade Show, captures the essence of the advancement in watercraft mobility. With foiling technology propelling boats to new heights—literally—the event aims to spark interest in sailing and foiling technology across the U.S. This initiative aligns perfectly with sustainability goals, echoing themes central to Foiling Week 2025.

The Olympic Future of Foiling

As foiling gains traction worldwide, it’s worth noting that foil sailing will make its debut at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, marking a significant shift in the sport. This adaptation is set to attract a younger audience while enhancing the excitement of sailing competitions. The International Olympic Committee decided to bring foil sailing into the fold, replacing the traditional Nacra 17 mixed multihull event. This inclusion speaks volumes about the popularity and innovation surrounding the sport, even as it raises challenges such as safety and inclusivity.

The high speeds associated with hydrofoils change the dynamics of sailing and invite a new generation of fans. With concerns about safety and the financial barriers of hydrofoil sports, the journey embraces both excitement and future challenges. Athletes are gearing up to showcase their skills while navigating this new landscape, aligning perfectly with the Olympic movement’s dedication to sustainability.
