In an impressive display of athletic prowess, four wrestlers from Brevard County clinched individual state titles at the 2026 FHSAA State Championships held from March 5 to 7 at the Silver Spur Arena in Kissimmee. This event saw a gathering of some of Florida’s finest young wrestlers, and Brevard County stood tall among the competition.
Three of the state champions competed in the Boys Class 1A division, showcasing their skills and determination. Gustavo Ferreira from Cocoa Beach took home the 157-pound championship title, while Timothy Boda from Merritt Island defended his title in the 138-pound category. Another stellar performance came from Tre Driggett, also from Merritt Island, who won the 190-pound title. Additionally, in the Class 2A division, Vlad Drown from Rockledge emerged victorious in the 106-pound weight class.
Brevard County’s Strong Team Performance
The team rankings further highlighted Brevard’s wrestling strength. The Minutemen from Merritt Island secured third place in the Boys Class 1A team standings with 132 points, while Merritt Island itself followed closely in fifth place with 90.5 points. The Viera girls’ team also made a mark, finishing sixth in their division, boasting four wrestlers in the top eight of their respective weight classes.

Highlights from Viera High School
Viera High School celebrated not only the achievements of its boys’ team but also the remarkable victory of Emma Hoppe, who had previously won the 2025 FHSAA Girls State Championship in the 135-pound weight class. With this win, she became the first girl to earn a wrestling state championship at Viera High School as well as the first female wrestler to claim a state title in Brevard County. Her journey to victory included a series of impressive matches, culminating in a decisive win against Ana Vilar of Flagler Palm Coast.
This year, the Viera girls’ wrestling team finished sixth at the Florida Wrestling State Championships, further solidifying their presence in the sport. The boys’ team also performed admirably, ranking 23rd in the Class 3A division, with several wrestlers making it to the top eight in their weight classes.
