As of today, May 1, 2026, Brevard County’s restaurant scene is experiencing quite a shake-up. With new flavors hitting the streets and some beloved spots closing their doors, food lovers have a lot to digest this April. If you’re a foodie in the area, here’s what you need to know about the latest openings and closures.

April 2023 saw some exciting new additions to the local dining landscape. For starters, CAVA opened its doors on April 17 at 2105 Viera Blvd. in Viera. This Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant offers customizable bowls and pitas, ensuring that there’s something for everyone. The restaurant is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., making it a perfect spot for lunch or dinner.

Just a few days earlier, on April 14, Chipotle Mexican Grill welcomed customers at its new location on 4521 Andromeda Road in Melbourne. Known for its customizable burritos, bowls, tacos, and salads, Chipotle is open daily from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m., ready to satisfy your Mexican food cravings.

Breakfast and Brunch Options

For those who love breakfast and brunch, Eggs Up Grill opened on April 20 at 2023 N. Atlantic Ave. in Cocoa Beach. This cozy eatery features a full breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu packed with classic comfort dishes. The restaurant is owned by Chris and Julie Schmidt, who also run another location in Melbourne.

However, it wasn’t all good news in the restaurant scene. Destination Downtown Food Hall, located at 2 N. Atlantic Ave. in Cocoa Beach, closed just shy of a year after its opening in June 2025. Plans are in motion to transform the space into a new concept called AVĪRA.

Another notable closure was Goombay’s Beachside, which served its last meal on April 19. Located at 306 State Road A1A in Satellite Beach, this Caribbean-inspired restaurant had been a local favorite for over 20 years, known for its relaxed coastal vibe. The space will soon be home to Villon Coffee Company, continuing the trend of evolution in the area.

Lastly, Smokey Bones at 1510 W. New Haven Ave. in Melbourne closed around April 28 after more than a decade in business. This closure is part of a broader pullback by the chain, which filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2023.

Looking Ahead

As we look to the future, new restaurants are expected to open in May, tantalizing our taste buds with fresh offerings. The dynamic nature of the restaurant industry means that each closure often paves the way for innovation and new culinary experiences.

The restaurant industry is complex and competitive, as highlighted in a recent whitepaper on gastronomy trends. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing emerging trends to stabilize businesses and enhance their appeal. In this ever-evolving landscape, staying ahead of the curve is crucial for both new and established eateries.

For the latest updates on Brevard County’s dining scene, be sure to stay tuned! Whether you’re a fan of Mediterranean, Mexican, or classic American comfort food, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
