25 Bodwell St., Avon, MA, USA - This summer, Quincy is alive with music and celebration as it marks its 400th anniversary. The highlight of the festivities kicked off on July 12 with a rousing performance by the famed Dropkick Murphys, an American Celtic punk band that began their journey in this very city back in 1996. The free concert, held in Quincy Center, drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 10,000 fans, eager to celebrate their hometown and tune in to the latest sounds from the band.

The concert not only served to celebrate Quincy’s milestone birthday but also featured the launch of the band’s new album, „For the People,“ released on July 4. Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch emphasized the importance of the event, expressing his honor in welcoming the band back to their roots. “They are an integral part of Quincy’s story,” he remarked, highlighting the deep connection between the band and the city it calls home.

A Community Celebration

Integral to this vibrant concert scene is B.C. Tent & Awning, which has been setting the stage for the event’s success. In business for 45 years, the company has provided essential tenting services for both performers and attendees throughout the concert series. For the Dropkick Murphys‘ concert, they set up a variety of tents, including:

  • Two 12’x12’ tents
  • One 20’x20’ tent
  • Two 10’x10’ tents for security check-in
  • One 20’x30’ tent for the after-party
  • Additional tables and chairs

Bob Costa, president of B.C. Tent & Awning, expressed pride in supporting Quincy’s landmark celebration, emphasizing the company’s history of working with nonprofits like Father Bill’s & Mainspring and the Joshua Kaye Foundation. With a hefty inventory ranging from small to large tents, the company provides services to a variety of clients, including wedding planners and colleges.

Looking Ahead

The summer concert series is far from over, with notable upcoming performances by Darius Rucker on August 2 and John Fogerty on August 3. The excitement is palpable, and with concerts starting at 4 p.m., Quincy’s streets will surely be alive with music and celebration.

As traffic clogs around Hancock Street during the festivities, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to embrace the joyful chaos. The spirit of community shines brightly as Quincy celebrates a rich legacy through music, togetherness, and a whole lot of heart.
