Today is the 4th of May, 2026, and there’s a buzz in Clermont, Florida! Just a month after a devastating fire struck Southern Hill Farms, the community is rallying around the beloved local attraction. Owners David and Lisa Hill, with the unwavering support of their neighbors, have managed to reopen their doors. Talk about resilience!
The fire, which was ignited by a lightning strike on September 9, wreaked havoc, destroying around $750,000 worth of agricultural equipment. It was a tough blow for the farm, as it housed most of the machinery essential for daily operations. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, thanks to the quick response from local firefighters who arrived shortly after the blaze started around 3 AM. They worked tirelessly to put out the flames, but unfortunately, the barn was lost to a “complete loss” of equipment, including multiple tractors and vital farming vehicles. You can read more about that incident here.
Fall Festival Kicks Off
Fast forward to now, and the farm has kicked off its ninth annual Fall Festival! It began on the last weekend of September and runs until November 17. This festival is a big deal, generating about 40% of the farm’s annual revenue. Despite the stormy weather during the opening weekend, attendance numbers were surprisingly similar to last year. Isn’t that fantastic? People sure love their fall festivities!
While the fire did force the farm to make some adjustments—like replacing the kiddie train with a tractor and getting new wagons, including one that’s wheelchair accessible—David and Lisa are just grateful to be back in business. They expressed heartfelt thanks for the community’s support during such a challenging time. The farm still boasts attractions like a petting zoo, rides, pumpkin patches, and sunflower fields, so there’s plenty for families to enjoy.
Community Spirit Shines Bright
The outpouring of support from locals and nearby businesses has truly been heartwarming. Many neighbors offered assistance, helping the Hills regain some sense of normalcy after the chaos of the fire. It just goes to show how tight-knit this community is. They’ve come together, proving that even in tough times, they can lift each other up.
As Southern Hill Farms continues its recovery, the commitment to restoring their equipment and infrastructure remains strong. The Hills are determined to keep the farm thriving, with the Fall Festival serving as a beacon of hope and resilience. It’s not just a celebration of the season; it’s a testament to the strength that can be found in community and shared perseverance.
