As of today, March 31, 2026, residents in the Picketville neighborhood of Edgewood are facing some temporary disruptions due to a damaged water line. JEA has been actively working since Monday morning to repair the issue on Old Kings Road, located about a block west of Edgewood Avenue North.

In light of these repairs, Old Kings Road has been closed between Wabash Boulevard and Shannon Avenue. Approximately 330 customers in the affected area are currently under a Boil Water Advisory, which has not yet been officially issued, but residents are urged to take precautions.

Safety Precautions for Residents

Customers are advised to boil water intended for drinking and food preparation. The guidelines suggest that water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use. For those who may experience power outages, household bleach can be used as a disinfectant. It’s important to only use household bleach that contains 5-6% active ingredients and to avoid scented varieties.

To disinfect water using bleach, residents should add about 8 drops (roughly 1/8 teaspoon) of bleach per gallon of water, shake it well, and let it stand for 30 minutes. If the water appears cloudy, increase the amount to approximately 16 drops (or 1/4 teaspoon). For local restaurants, it’s crucial to serve only bottled beverages or drinks made with boiled water. Food should not be prepared using unboiled water, and staff should implement alternative hand-cleaning methods to maintain hygiene standards. Restaurants are also advised to contact the health department or the environmental ministry for additional guidance.

Community Response and Support

JEA expresses gratitude to the community for their patience during this necessary repair work. As the repairs continue, residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow the safety measures outlined to ensure their health and safety.

It’s always challenging when unexpected situations arise in our neighborhoods, but with a little cooperation and understanding, we can all navigate these temporary inconveniences together. Remember to keep an eye on local news outlets for updates on the situation, and don’t hesitate to reach out to JEA with any questions or concerns.
