It’s that time of the week again! The PuroClean of Melbourne Athlete of the Week nominations for the 2025-26 high school sports season are officially open. If you want to support your favorite athletes, you can cast your votes on 321preps.com and floridatoday.com. Voting runs until noon on Thursday, Nov. 6, so make sure to get your votes in. Remember, votes are limited to once per device per hour!
Last week’s winner was Aaron Gordon from Edgewood swimming, who made quite a splash with his performance. This week, we have a fantastic lineup of nominees for the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 1:
- Zaylan Chapple, Cocoa football: Scored four rushing touchdowns in the BBQ Bowl on Oct. 30.
- Cyrus Joseph, Edgewood golf: Shot a remarkable 69 at Fairwinds Golf Course, tying for first at the District 8-1A tournament on Oct. 27.
- James McGill, Astronaut bowling: Won the individual FHSAA state championship title with impressive scores of 214-185-240 on Oct. 30.
- Deshaun Thomas, Merritt Island football: Scored three rushing touchdowns in a Week 11 win over Viera on Oct. 30.
- Brady Zink, Viera swimming: Placed first in both the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle at the District 3-4A meet on Oct. 29.
How to Nominate
Coaches and athletic directors are encouraged to nominate athletes by emailing their accomplishments to Prepscores@floridatoday.com by 10 a.m. each Sunday. This is a great opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of our young athletes!

Girls Athlete of the Week Nominations
Don’t forget, the girls’ nominations are just as exciting! The PuroClean of Melbourne Girls Athlete of the Week nominees for the period from Oct. 6-11 included standout performances from athletes such as:
- Macy Ferguson, Edgewood Volleyball: 9 digs, 4 aces, and 5 kills against MCC on Oct. 7, followed by 6 kills, 3 aces, and 8 digs against Calvary Chapel on Oct. 9.
- Genevieve Giguere, West Shore Bowling: Achieved a season-best score of 289 on Oct. 7.
- Hannah Hall, Viera Golf: Finished 5 under par with a score of 31 at Duran Golf Club on Oct. 8.
- Shamora Scott, Bayside Volleyball: Dominated her matches with 17 kills, 2 aces, and 7 digs in a five-set win against Rockledge on Oct. 6, and 7 kills, 5 aces, and 6 digs in a victory over Astronaut on Oct. 7.
