Rockledge High School Track Teams Shine at Cape Coast Conference Championships

On April 10, Rockledge High School’s boys and girls track teams made headlines by clinching the Cape Coast Conference championships. This victory marked the girls’ 15th consecutive title and the boys’ fifth in a row, showcasing the dominance of Rockledge in local track and field.

The boys’ team demonstrated an impressive performance throughout the meet, building and expanding their lead as the events progressed. Senior Christopher Gordon was a standout athlete, achieving a remarkable “triple crown” by winning the 100 meters (10.78 seconds), 200 meters (21.56 seconds), and 400 meters (48.39 seconds). His triumph played a pivotal role in the team’s overall success.

Highlights from Individual Events

The conference championships were filled with thrilling individual performances. Rylan Reyes from Cocoa Beach also made a mark, winning both the 800 meters (1:56.00) and the 1600 meters (4:24.07). Additionally, Jonas Dowdell from Edgewood topped the 3200 meters with a time of 9:15.97, while Nathaniel Owens from Heritage took first in the 110-meter hurdles (14.89 seconds) and Eric Williams from Titusville excelled in the 400-meter hurdles (59.01 seconds).

In the field events, the competition was fierce. Tory Love from Rockledge won the discus with a personal best of 45.02 meters, while Landon Plechaty from West Shore took the javelin title (49.64 meters). The boys’ long jump was won by Michal Paul from Viera, who leaped 7.01 meters, and Nathaniel Owens also shone in the triple jump with a mark of 13.60 meters.

Rockledge Girls Dominate

The girls’ team was equally impressive, scoring a total of 217 points to secure their title. Diamond Bryant from Cocoa was a standout, winning both the 100 meters (12.06 seconds) and 200 meters (24.97 seconds). Rockledge’s Laila Dupuch also excelled, taking first in the 400 meters with a time of 57.66 seconds.

One of the most notable performances came from Celina Coryell from Satellite, who won both the 1600 meters (5:02.51) and the 3200 meters (10:54.62). Reyna Gaines from Rockledge showed her prowess in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 14.74 seconds. The girls’ relays saw Rockledge win the 4×800 (9:56.13 seconds) and the 4×400 (4:04.05 seconds), further solidifying their dominance in the competition.
