Born on December 18, 1941, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Mike passed away on March 8, 2026, in Brentwood, Tennessee. His life was one filled with dedication, family, and a passion for his profession.

Mike was the son of Frederick Howard Woodke and Vi Woodke (Verheyen) from De Pere, Wisconsin. Growing up in De Pere, he graduated from West De Pere High School, where he likely laid the groundwork for his future successes. He pursued a degree in civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin Madison, where he was also a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, showcasing his commitment to both academics and community.

A Life of Service and Dedication

Mike’s journey didn’t stop with his education. He served in the United States Naval Reserve after completing Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. His military service took him to various locations, including Pensacola, Florida; Denver, Colorado; and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he honed his leadership skills and commitment to service.

After his military career, Mike spent 37 years as a manager of engineering at The Kroger Company. He was widely recognized for his strong work ethic, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, traits that made a lasting impact on his colleagues and the company alike.

Family Man at Heart

Mike married Barbara Makowski on October 28, 1967, in St. John’s the Evangelist Church, beginning a partnership that would flourish for decades. Together, they raised two children: Valerie Hershiser (Judd) from Windermere, Florida, and Brian Woodke (Lane) from Birmingham, Alabama. He took immense pride in his family, which includes grandchildren Judson and Tyler Hershiser, and Lucy, Ann, and Will Woodke.

Known for his character, humor, and optimistic outlook, Mike was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans. His dedication to family and his passion for football were just a few of the things that defined him. A private ceremony will be held at the Cathedral of the Incarnation to honor his memory, reflecting the deep respect and love his family and friends hold for him.
