Today is the 10th of March, 2026, and as we stroll through the vibrant streets of Lakeland, there’s an exciting buzz about the annual Cintas competition, “America’s Best Restroom.” This event, now in its 24th year, recognizes the most innovative and hygienic public restrooms across the United States. It’s a quirky yet meaningful way to celebrate the often-overlooked spaces that keep our communities functioning smoothly. Interestingly, Tampa International Airport snagged the prestigious award in 2022, but Lakeland has yet to see a winner emerge from its ranks.
In anticipation of this year’s competition, locals are encouraged to share their favorite public restrooms. Two standout spots in Lakeland worth mentioning are The Joinery and The Peach House. The Joinery features a minimalist design with large citrus prints, wooden accents, and private stalls clearly marked with “free” and “occupied” signs, creating a comfortable experience for visitors. Meanwhile, The Peach House takes a more playful approach, boasting pink decor and tropical palm tree wallpaper that is sure to brighten anyone’s day.
Get Involved in the Restroom Revolution
As part of this year’s competition, Cintas has called for public participation, opening up voting until August 15. The winning restroom will not only receive a Cintas UltraClean restroom cleaning service and $2,500 in facility services but will also gain national recognition. This year’s finalists are being judged on five criteria: cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality, and unique design elements, highlighting the importance of well-maintained facilities in our communities.
In addition to our local contenders, there are some remarkable finalists across the country. For instance, the Moderne Bar in Orlando features stunning black-and-white tiling and gold accents, making it a popular photo spot for guests. Other notable finalists include the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City, known for its luxurious Pink Restroom adorned with Italian marble and crystal chandeliers, and Tecolote Shores in San Diego, which combines coastal charm with practical amenities like showers and drinking fountains.
