Longwood Women’s Basketball Unveils Exciting Nonconference Schedule!
The Longwood University women’s basketball team is gearing up for an exciting season, as Head Coach Erika Lang-Montgomery unveiled the nonconference schedule on August 26, 2025. After a commendable performance last season, where the team posted a record of 22-12, tying their Division I mark for wins, the upcoming games promise to test and showcase their talent even further.
As excitement builds among fans and players alike, it’s worth noting that last year ended with a tough loss in the first round of the 2025 Postseason WNIT. But the new season brings fresh hope, with a solid slate lined up. A total of 13 games make up the nonconference schedule, featuring seven thrilling home games at the Joan Perry Brock Center.
Home Games and Key Matchups
The season is set to tip off on November 5 against Randolph in Farmville, a great opening challenge for the squad. Just three days later, the first home game sees a visit from Western Kentucky on November 8, marking a historic two-game series between the teams that have never clashed in women’s basketball before.
After the Western Kentucky game, Longwood will have their first road adventure against Navy in Annapolis, also on November 8. Among the home highlights are matchups against Bluefield (NAIA) on November 14, during Homecoming & Alumni Weekend, and George Washington on November 17, which will be the Longwood women’s basketball team’s inaugural meeting with this opponent.
As they navigate the season, other noteworthy games include clashes with Buffalo on November 27 and Stephen F. Austin on November 29. To round off the non-league schedule, Longwood is set to face Troy at home on December 3, UNC Pembroke on December 7, and UNCW on December 21, with an away game at Elon sandwiched in between on December 14.
Exciting Transfers and New Talent
This season isn’t just about the schedule; it’s also about reinforcements. Two notable transfers have joined the team, each bringing valuable Division I experience. Jasmine Peaks, a Florida native, comes from Wichita State, where she averaged 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. Alary Bell, from Chester, previously played at Saint Francis, boasting averages of 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds.
Adding to the roster excitement is the signing of freshmen guards Jesstynie Scott and Kayla Washington, along with forward/center London Harvey. This mix of fresh talent and seasoned players gives the Longwood Lancers a promising look as they head into the fray.
Looking Ahead
With the new season just around the corner, there are plenty of expectations resting on the shoulders of Coach Lang-Montgomery and her team. Their ambitious nonconference schedule offers not only the chance to hone their skills but also to make waves in the larger collegiate landscape. Can they improve on last season’s performance? Time will tell, but there’s much to be excited about!
