Get ready, cat lovers and community supporters! On March 15 at 12 p.m., PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary is set to host the “Cats + Hard Hats” Construction Kickoff. This exciting event marks a significant milestone in the expansion of the Ayers Feline Adoption Center, aimed at enhancing the lives of cats in the South Florida community.
Community members are invited to kick back and enjoy bubbles and brunch bites as they support PURRR’s mission. The event will feature a reception from 12 to 12:45 p.m., followed by a ceremony starting at 12:45 p.m. Notable speakers include Tanya Lynn Heller, the Founder of PURRR, Ken Hansted, the Interim Executive Director, and Dr. Ross Fischer, a Veterinarian and Board Member. After the ceremony, guests can take a guided tour of the sanctuary, getting a firsthand look at the future of cat care.
Exciting Developments Ahead
The expansion, fueled by a generous $1 million leadership gift from Jon and Helaine Ayers, will significantly enhance PURRR’s services and impact. Plans include a comprehensive 3,000 square foot renovation on the first level and another 3,000 square feet on the second level. This upgrade will allow for an increase in surgical operations from two days a week to five. The new surgical suite will accommodate two to three surgical tables and include an on-site laboratory, ensuring quicker and more efficient care for cats.
Additionally, the facility will feature 11 designated living areas for cats, including spaces for quarantine, isolation, and nursery needs. This expansion will not only reduce wait times for spay and neuter services, vaccinations, and other procedures but also make medical services more affordable, helping to eliminate cost barriers for pet ownership.
Community Engagement and Fundraising
In addition to the expansion kickoff, PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary is partnering with Abandoned Pet Rescue for a special event called the Thrifty Kitty Pop-Up Boutique. This shopping extravaganza will offer an evening of style and second chances, inviting attendees to participate in a Buy-A-Bag, Fill-A-Bag event featuring a selection of men’s and women’s fashion. The entry is free, with full bags costing $50 and half bags at $25. Note that luxury brands and wedding dresses will be sold at thrift prices, and this event will also provide an opportunity to meet adoptable cats and dogs waiting for their forever homes.
As Michelle Schecht, Executive Director of PURRR, states, “Our partnership with Abandoned Pet Rescue means double the impact for animals in need.” Proceeds from the boutique will be split evenly between PURRR and Abandoned Pet Rescue, further bolstering their efforts to rescue and care for vulnerable pets.
