Today is the 10th of March, 2026, and the Kutztown University softball team has wrapped up their southern trip with a doubleheader against Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. The day was a mix of highs and lows for the Golden Bears, as they split the two games, showcasing both their power and the challenges of competition.
In the first game, Kutztown clinched a 10-7 victory. The team was on fire, racking up 14 hits, with a standout performance from Taylor Gearhart and Emily Henn, who each hit three-run home runs. Henn led the charge with three hits, one run, and three RBIs, while Ashley Schulz also shone with three hits and three runs. Morgan Slomkowski contributed significantly with three hits, two RBIs, and two runs. Gearhart added two hits, three RBIs, and one run to the mix. Abbey Wagner pitched a solid game, throwing seven innings and striking out three batters, improving her record to 2-2. The game was notable for Kutztown’s explosive 4-run second inning and a resilient 5-run response from Barry. Despite Barry’s attempts to rally in the seventh, they couldn’t quite tie the game.

The second game didn’t go as smoothly for the Golden Bears. Barry turned the tables, winning 8-0 in just five innings, with a particularly rough first inning where Barry scored six runs. Kutztown struggled at the plate, managing only three hits throughout the game. Following this doubleheader, the team’s overall record stands at 7-9, finishing their southern trip with a 4-6 record over 10 games in 8 days.
Looking ahead, Kutztown will be back on their home turf for a doubleheader against Holy Family on March 14, scheduled for noon. The team is eager to build momentum after their challenging trip.
Looking Forward: NCAA Division III Tournament
In other exciting news for Kutztown, they recently hosted a regional round in the NCAA Division III softball tournament, where they swept Bloomsburg in two games to avoid elimination. In the first game, they won 6-0, thanks to Naya Darnowski’s two-run home run and Emily Henn’s solid contribution of three singles and a walk. Pitcher Haley Gravish was in top form, allowing only four hits.
The second game was a nail-biter, remaining scoreless through seven innings before Caitlin Ashley hit a pinch-hit home run in the eighth. Gravish once again showcased her skills, striking out Allie Wenrich with the tying run on second base, marking her 30th win of the season. Kutztown is gearing up to host Shippensburg in a best-of-three Super Regional starting Thursday at North Campus Field. The excitement is palpable as the team continues their quest for glory!
