Lake Nipissing, Ontario, Canada - Lake Nipissing is all abuzz as the highly anticipated Hank Gibson Provincial Qualifier kicks off from July 11 to 13, 2025. This esteemed Ontario B.A.S.S. Nation Qualifier has attracted 40 teams, comprising an equal number of boaters and non-boaters, bringing the total to 80 enthusiastic participants. However, it’s worth noting that this year’s turnout has taken a dip from 2022’s impressive over 130 participants. Factors contributing to this decline include challenging conditions on the lake in previous years and economic elements affecting travel decisions.

Measurements are scheduled at 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The top-performing anglers from this event will earn their spot on Team Ontario, representing the province at the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship. The stakes are high, with the victorious team from this championship getting a shot at competing in the prestigious B.A.S.S. Master Classic, a dream for many aspiring anglers.

Rules and Regulations

Participation comes with a comprehensive set of rules established by Nipissing Bass, aimed at ensuring fairness and safety. According to Nipissing Bass, each tournament is capped at 35 boats per event, with a strict requirement for two anglers per boat. Both participants must possess a valid Ontario fishing license, one of which needs to be a sport license. The tournament operates from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and any late check-ins incur penalties—0.50 lbs deducted per minute for tardiness.

Only large mouth and small mouth bass over 12 inches are eligible, with a maximum of five fish allowed for weigh-in. Violators may face disqualification or hefty penalties, such as 0.50 lbs for weighing in short fish or dead ones. In fact, the rules stipulate that competitors must have operational live wells on their boats to ensure fish care and live release practices are followed.

It’s essential to note that sportsmanship is highly valued. Any unethical behavior could lead to serious consequences, including suspension or expulsion from the tournament. According to the Canadian Bass, competitors should be mindful that all decisions made by tournament officials are final and non-protestable, further emphasizing the importance of adhering to established guidelines.
