Boca Raton, Florida, USA - In a thrilling performance at Stonebridge Country Club in Boca Raton, Eva Lye emerged victorious at the South Florida Junior PGA Championship held on June 17, 2025. The recent graduate of First Baptist Academy has made quite a name for herself recently, being crowned the Girls Golfer of the Year at the Southwest Florida Sports Awards just last month. Lye managed to clinch the Girls‘ 13-18 division title in a nail-biting finish, edging out Alexandra Phung by a single shot.

The victory hinged on a crucial birdie made by Lye on the final hole, which highlighted her competitive spirit and skill. Lye fired a solid 2-under 70 in her final round, after starting with an even par 72. In the mix, Jensi Krampel from Estero finished tied for third, just two shots behind Lye. Thanks to this win, Lye will proudly represent the South Florida PGA at the upcoming 49th Boys & Girls Junior PGA Championships set for July 29 to August 1 in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The Path to Success

But Lye’s journey doesn’t stop here. She previously placed eighth overall at the Class 2A state championships last fall and has plans to continue her golf career at High Point University. Her dedication and hard work clearly pay off, establishing her as a rising star in the junior golf scene.

In addition to her recent triumph, it’s worth noting that Lye also showcased her talents at the 2024 South Florida PGA Junior Cup at BallenIsles Country Club, where she was one of the top competitors. There, she won her division after battling through a challenging second-round score of 77, ultimately finishing with a 1-under 71. “I just kept my head in the game,” Lye indicated on her strategy, proving that resilience can turn the tide.

Rising Stars of Junior Golf

While Eva Lye shines brightly, she isn’t alone in her achievements. Charlie Woods, son of golfing legend Tiger Woods, also showcased his skills by winning his division at the same Junior Cup event. Competing against 62 junior boys golfers, he was the only player to finish under par with a combined score of 73-68-73. Woods shared his excitement about the win, attributing his success to the hard work he put in during the summer and his determination to rebound after a tough showing at the U.S. Junior Amateur.

The South Florida Junior PGA hosted several events throughout the year, including the prestigious Prep Tour, which serves as a competitive platform for young golfers aged 9 to 18. The tour acts as a stepping stone from entry-level programs like the Links Tour to more advanced competitions, offering a friendly atmosphere for budding golf talents. With the chance to gain competitive experience and hone their skills, many young athletes find the Prep Tour an invaluable part of their growth as golfers.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of Eva Lye and her peers in the golf community, it’s evident that Florida’s junior golf scene is brimming with potential. Who knows? The next champion might just be getting ready to make their mark in the upcoming tournaments. Keep an eye on these young talents, for there’s much more yet to come!
