Today is the 12th of June, 2026, and here in sunny Juno Beach, we’ve got a tale that’ll tug at your heartstrings! Let me take you on a little adventure that recently unfolded on the stunning coasts of Cornwall, involving not one, but two brave springer spaniels—Juno and Bruno.
On June 11, the Mevagissey Coastguard team received an urgent alert at 2:54 PM. They were called to assist the Portscatho Coastguard rescue team in a rather dramatic situation. A delightful springer spaniel named Juno found herself in quite the pickle, stuck on a cliff at Porthcurnick Beach. This pooch had scrambled up the cliff and was unable to make her way back down to the beach. Thankfully, Juno was described as fit and well, just waiting patiently for her heroes to arrive.
A Rescue in Full Swing
The rescue operation was nothing short of heroic. A full rope setup was readied, complete with a specialist rope technician who came equipped with an animal bag, dog lead, and even some treats to entice Juno. Can you imagine the scene? A technician descending that steep cliff, with Juno excitedly wagging her tail, relieved to see someone coming to her rescue! Once the technician reached her, both Juno and the technician were safely lowered back to the beach. What a reunion it must have been when Juno was finally back in the arms of her owner, who had wisely stayed in a safe location and called for help. If you ever find yourself in a tight spot, remember, just call 999 and ask for the coastguard, just like Juno’s owner did! You can read more about this heartwarming rescue here.
Now, speaking of rescues, let’s not forget about another brave spaniel named Bruno. This little guy had a bit of a wild adventure of his own. He fell from a 100-foot high cliff while out walking with his owners near Trebarwith Strand. Can you imagine the panic? Fortunately, a passerby discovered Bruno stranded on a precarious ledge, and they promptly alerted the coastguard.
Bruno’s Close Call
The Boscastle Coastguard team sprang into action and, just like with Juno, a specialized rescuer was lowered down to secure Bruno with a safety harness. Video footage captured the intensity of the moment, showing how dedicated the team was to bringing this furry friend back to safety. After a short examination, Bruno was found to be unharmed, joyfully reunited with his relieved owners who had been searching for him since Sunday. They described him as friendly and accessible—just the kind of pup you want by your side! You can find more about Bruno’s rescue here.
It’s fascinating how these stories of bravery and quick actions by coastguards resonate with all of us. Pets are part of our family, and the thought of them in danger tugs at the heart. These rescues remind us not only of the bond we share with our furry companions but also the importance of being cautious around cliffs and steep areas. So, whether you’re at the beach or hiking in the woods, keeping your pets safe is always a priority.
