Calvary Church in Jupiter, Florida, has taken a significant step forward by expanding its services into a new facility. With an impressive investment of $13 million, the church has repurposed its existing auditorium to better serve its growing community. This ambitious project included the design and installation of a new AV infrastructure, led by Avenue Systems from Milwaukee.

The church’s audio system was tailored to meet specific needs, requiring a relatively high energy level for sound without reaching concert volume. To achieve this, a central solution featuring a Martin Audio CDD point source was implemented, ensuring clear and consistent coverage throughout the space. Given the auditorium’s relatively broad dimensions, distributed audio sources proved to be a more economical choice than a line array. The technical team at Calvary Church also prioritized user-friendly operation, automation, and flexibility in their new setup.

Advanced Audio and Video Solutions

The sound design is notably comprehensive, featuring two CDD15 speakers on each side of the stage, four CDD12 speakers in a delay ring, two CDD10 speakers, and five ultra-compact CDD6 speakers as in-fills. Additionally, four SX218 subwoofers are strategically placed in bunkers at the front of the stage. This intricate audio setup is powered by 44M20 four-channel amplifiers from sister company Linea Research and processed through Q-SYS. To enhance the acoustic quality of the space, treatments were installed to reduce reverberation, flutter, and echo.

On the video front, Calvary Church has also introduced an immersive setup featuring five screens. These can function as one large display or as separate visual zones, adapting to the needs of various services and events. The control of this AV system was a critical component of the project, with the team closely collaborating with Calvary Church to determine the automation and control requirements.

Collaboration and Community Impact

The result is a fully integrated system that not only meets Calvary’s current objectives but also allows for future scalability. The automation has streamlined Sunday operations, making it easier for volunteers to manage complex systems without hassle. Throughout the project, Avenue Systems provided ongoing support and clear communication, helping to build trust and ensure a smooth installation process.

Upon completion, there was a palpable sense of relief, excitement, and gratitude among those involved. The positive reactions have been heartwarming, with many expressing feelings of awe at the results achieved. The new systems are designed to be targeted, intuitive, and powerful, effectively serving Calvary Church’s growing congregation.

The partnership between Calvary Church and Avenue Systems stands as a prime example of thoughtful design and collaboration in action. As noted by Steve Sweeney, the church’s production manager, maintaining a good relationship with integrators is crucial for success.
