Today is July 7, 2026, and there’s a lot happening in our sunny corner of Florida! One of the biggest buzzes around town is the upcoming move of WPTV NewsChannel 5 from West Palm Beach to Palm Beach Gardens. It’s quite the change, and folks are curious about what this means for local news.

WPTV has called 1100 Banyan Blvd. in West Palm Beach home, but that will soon be a thing of the past. The property was sold for a whopping $40 million back in May 2025 to a joint venture between Related Ross, Wexford Capital, and Key International. They’re packing up and shifting to a shiny new space on RCA Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens, with plans to make the big move in the fall of 2027. For now, they’re still operating from their original location, but the excitement is palpable!

What’s in Store for WPTV?

The new site at 3980 RCA Blvd., located in Northcorp Corporate Park, is already buzzing with activity. E.W. Scripps, the parent company of WPTV, has secured a permit for interior demolition. It’s all systems go as they prepare to revamp the space for their news operations. Over the past decade, WPTV and its neighbor, WPBF-Channel 25, have battled it out for the title of the most-watched TV stations in the region. This move could certainly shake things up in the local broadcasting scene.

As we look forward to this transition, it’s worth noting the changing face of our community. Just recently, Boca Raton made headlines for a different reason. A 28-year-old nanny from Lighthouse Point, Nikki Todd-Smith, found herself in some hot water after being arrested for driving the wrong way on the North Federal Highway. A police officer noticed her white Chevrolet cruising north in the southbound lanes just after midnight on July 3. Talk about a wild ride!

Local News and Community Impact

When stopped, the officer detected a strong smell of alcohol and observed Todd-Smith had bloodshot, watery eyes. Initially, she denied consuming alcohol but later admitted to having “a drink or two.” It’s never a good idea to get behind the wheel after even a couple of drinks, especially when sobriety tests reveal struggles like swaying and failing to follow simple instructions. She even showed signs of nystagmus, an involuntary eye movement often associated with impairment. After refusing to take a breath test, she was taken into custody. Hopefully, this serves as a reminder for everyone to stay safe on the roads.
