Today is April 30, 2026, and exciting news is buzzing around Wellington, Florida, as prominent dressage figures Lars Petersen and Melissa Taylor announce their departure from Helgstrand Dressage. Effective July 1, 2026, the duo will return to their roots at Legacy Farm, marking a significant shift in their professional journey.
Petersen and Taylor have been pivotal in leading the U.S. operations for Helgstrand Dressage since they signed a contract in January 2022. Their journey took them from Legacy Farm in Loxahatchee to Windsome Farm, where they managed the U.S. branch of the renowned Danish equestrian business. However, following the collapse of Helgstrand U.S.A. in 2024, they have decided to reevaluate their path.
Return to Legacy Farm
As they prepare to return to Legacy Farm, Taylor has expressed enthusiasm about accepting new clients year-round at Eagle Tree Farm in Wellington. This transition reflects a renewed focus on their passion for training horses and riders rather than engaging in the commercial sale of horses. Petersen emphasized that their love for riding and training is what drives them, with any sales being merely a “bonus.”
Interestingly, while the couple transitions back to Legacy Farm, Petersen plans to continue training some of Helgstrand’s sale horses, indicating a commitment to maintaining high standards of equestrian excellence. They both conveyed deep gratitude for their experiences and relationships formed during their time at Helgstrand, underscoring that this move is about returning to their core values.
The Evolution of Helgstrand U.S.A.
The backdrop to this announcement is noteworthy: Helgstrand U.S.A. faced significant challenges, culminating in its collapse in 2024, just two years after Petersen and Taylor took the reins. Windsome Farm, where they had initially relocated, was sold to the family of Raquel Rizzuto, who has since established a dressage facility named “Beauty Central” on the premises. This sale was part of a larger reorganization in the area, as Helgstrand’s sales operation has now moved back to Eagle Tree Farm, which they originally rented in 2017.
To bolster sales efforts in the U.S., Micha Knol has been appointed as the new sales manager for Helgstrand starting in 2026. This strategic move aims to enhance the commercial side of the business, which Petersen and Taylor have decided to step away from.
Looking Ahead
As Petersen and Taylor gear up for their new chapter, they are poised to bring their expertise and passion back to their own venture. With a focus on training and a clear understanding of their strengths, they are ready to make a significant impact in the equestrian community once again.
This shift marks not just a personal journey for the couple but a broader narrative within the equestrian world, showcasing the importance of aligning business strategies with personal passions. For more details on their exciting transition, check out the full story here.
