On January 28, 2026, the community of Edgewater, Florida, lost a remarkable figure, Muriel (Midge) Turner Romano, at the age of 97. Born on October 7, 1928, in Berlin, New Hampshire, Midge was the daughter of Odian and Alice (Linnell) Turner. She grew up in Wentworth’s Location, NH, and left school at the tender age of 17 to pursue a career in nursing. After completing her education, she graduated from Berlin High School in 1946 and attended the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Hanover, NH, where she earned her RN degree in 1949.

Midge dedicated an impressive 47 years to the nursing profession, serving in various capacities at esteemed institutions. Her career spanned across Pratt Hospital in Boston, the VA Hospital in White River Junction, Vermont, and the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital (Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center) in Hanover, NH. In 1984, she and her husband, Carroll (Mino) Romano, moved to Edgewater, Florida, where she eventually retired from the Humana Hospital in Daytona Beach in 1996.

A Life of Family and Service

Midge married Carroll Romano on September 23, 1950, and they made their home in West Lebanon, NH. Sadly, Carroll passed away in 1991, and Midge was predeceased by her brothers Richard, Arlen, and Wendell, as well as her sister Beverly Jennings. She leaves behind a loving family, including her sons Jim (Margie) from New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Jay (Sandy) from Enfield, NH; and Jeff (Wendy) from Lafayette, Louisiana. Midge was also a proud grandmother to Jamie, Hanna, Mario, Marco, Timothy, Daniel, and David, and cherished her eight great-grandchildren: Azzurra, Sophia, Catherine, Calliope, Elliana, Alex, Danielle, and Christa.

In addition to her immediate family, Midge is survived by her siblings Ronald from Wyntrup, MA, and Faye from Auburn, NY, whom she raised after the early death of their mother. She had several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Outside of her professional life, Midge enjoyed reading and traveling, making many cherished trips to Europe with her grandchildren and journeys across the United States with her family.
