As we step into summer, the excitement in Newberry is palpable! The city is gearing up for a grand patriotic celebration to mark a monumental occasion—the 250th anniversary of the United States! Can you believe it? This year’s Fourth of July Parade promises to be an unforgettable event, filled with history and community spirit.

Scheduled for July 4th at 9 AM, the parade will wind its way through downtown Newberry, showcasing 100 floats that will depict significant moments, people, and events from American history. From the American Revolutionary War to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and even the moon landing, participants will experience a timeline of our nation’s heritage. The parade will also honor military achievements and celebrate modern American milestones. Talk about a history lesson in motion!

Join the Celebration!

The city of Newberry is extending an invitation to all residents, churches, schools, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups from North Central Florida to join in on the fun. It’s a chance for everyone to come together, show their pride, and participate in an event that truly reflects the spirit of our nation. Registration for parade floats begins on Thursday at 7 PM through Sign Up Genius. So, whether you’re part of a large group or just a couple of friends, there’s room for you!

And it doesn’t stop there! On the evening of July 3rd, if drought conditions permit, there will be a fireworks display at CountryWay Town Square. Just imagine the sky lighting up with vibrant colors, celebrating our freedom as we all gather together. It sets the perfect tone for the main event the following day.

More Than Just Fireworks

Independence Day is a cherished tradition in America, celebrated since 1777. The very first festivities took place in Philadelphia, where the city was decked out in the red, white, and blue. Back then, people would gather for parades, enjoy grand fireworks, and even fire cannons—one for each of the original 13 colonies. John Adams, who would later become the second president, envisioned fireworks that could be seen across the entire continent. And here we are, carrying on that tradition with dazzling displays that light up the night sky every year!

Throughout the country, you’ll find parades, concerts, and of course, those family barbecues that everyone looks forward to. The colors of the Star-Spangled Banner are everywhere—on cars, storefronts, and even the clothes we wear. Many folks take pride in donning flag patterns, and it’s not unusual to see pets dressed up in the national colors too. It’s all about celebrating together, reflecting on our history, and enjoying the freedoms we cherish.

If you’re looking for more information on how to participate, check out the city’s official website or their social media channels.
