Get ready, folks! The much-anticipated Newberry Watermelon Festival is just around the corner, taking place on Saturday, May 16, 2026. This vibrant celebration is all about community spirit and of course, watermelons! Everyone’s invited—businesses, schools, clubs, sports teams, you name it. It’s a perfect opportunity to gather and have some fun!
This year, there’s something new to look forward to: a Golf Cart Competition themed around our juicy friend, the watermelon! Participants are encouraged to deck out their carts in dazzling decor to honor not just 81 years of the festival but also 130 years of Newberry’s rich history. Remember, to be part of the competition, you need to join the parade, which kicks off the day’s festivities.
Festival Day Highlights
So, what can you expect on the big day? The event kicks off at the Country Way Town Square, located at 1739 SW 248th Dr., Newberry. Gates open bright and early at 9:00 AM, with the parade lineup starting at 10:00 AM and the parade itself rolling out at 10:30 AM from Lois Forte Park on 260th Street. The route will take a left onto State Road 26 and continue onto Seaboard Drive—so find a good spot to watch the colorful floats and decorated golf carts go by!
Right after the parade, the entertainment just keeps coming. You can test your skills at the watermelon seed-spitting contest, or cheer on your furry friends at the pet beauty contest. And don’t forget the crowning of the Watermelon Queen! Throughout the day, there will be food, crafts, games, and live entertainment, making it a perfect family outing.
