Today is the 9th of March, 2026, and there’s exciting news coming from Bay District Schools. Recently, Superintendent Mark McQueen surprised everyone by announcing the newly appointed principals for Arnold High School and Deer Point Elementary. This announcement also included the recognition of the principal and assistant principal of the year, showcasing the district’s commitment to educational excellence.
In a significant transition, Todd Mitchell, who has been the principal at Rutherford High School, will take over as the new principal at Arnold High School. He will be stepping into the role on July 1, 2024, but will begin transitioning in April 2024. Mitchell replaces retiring principal Britt Smith and brings a wealth of experience and a strong educational background. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership and an Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction. His time at Rutherford has been marked by impressive achievements, including a graduation rate increase from 77% to an outstanding 94.3%, along with notable improvements among key student groups.
New Leadership at Deer Point Elementary
Meanwhile, Michelle Good will be taking the helm at Deer Point Elementary after serving as principal at Callaway Elementary since 2022. Good boasts over a decade of experience in education and holds multiple advanced degrees, including a master’s in school leadership and another in curriculum and instruction. Her dedication to educational leadership was recognized when she was honored as Bay District Schools Principal of the Year. Additionally, she’s served as a Charlotte Danielson Framework Trainer, further enhancing her credentials in educational best practices.
Both Mitchell and Good have expressed their commitment to supporting students and fostering a positive school culture. They are excited to take on their new roles and make a significant impact in their respective schools as they transition into their leadership positions.
