Beloved Lynda Sue Runyon, 78, Laid to Rest in Heartfelt Ceremony

Hampton, Kentucky, USA - Mrs. Lynda Sue Runyon, a cherished figure in the Artemus community, passed away peacefully at her home on June 7, 2025, at the age of 78. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Lynda’s legacy extends beyond her immediate family, embracing all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Born on May 9, 1947, she was the daughter of Clifford Scalf, Sr. and Cora Mae (Smith) Scalf. Lynda was a homemaker who passionately practiced her Baptist faith and took great joy in quilting and flower gardening.
Her family has been an essential part of her life. Lynda was pre-deceased by her husband, Carl Runyon, her parents, one grandson, Dustin Waters, and two sisters, Carrie Crawford and Esther Quest. She is survived by her children—Carl Runyon, Jr. and Tammy of Artemus, Carrie Waters and David of Corbin, and Jennifer Tucker and Brandon of Madisonville, Kentucky. Lynda also leaves behind six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, not to mention her three siblings, Clifford Scalf, Jr. of Ruskin, Florida, Anna S. Teague and her husband Harry from Danville, Virginia, and Loftis Quest.
A Farewell with Faith
The funeral service for Lynda Runyon is set for June 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Larry Sizemore will officiate the service, which will likely include traditional elements significant to Baptist customs. According to Everloved, Baptist funerals are a communal occasion for honoring faith and legacy, often featuring hymns, prayers, and scripture readings—elements that Lynda would surely appreciate, given her strong beliefs.
The service will follow a customary format, including prayers, eulogies, and comforting sermons that reflect themes of eternal life and hope. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. before the service begins. Pallbearers, who include James Albert Martin, Brandon Tucker, Carl Runyon, Jr., and Clifford Scalf, III, will help escort Lynda to her final resting place beside her late husband in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Community Connection
In reflecting on Lynda’s life, we also take a moment to acknowledge others in the community who have passed recently, like Raymond Earl Kelley. Kelley, who passed away on March 23, 2025, embodied the spirit of local ties and faith. As a member of the Lafayette Baptist Church, he too benefited from the support and comfort of closely knit traditions that bring people together in times of grief, as outlined by Lewis Funeral Home.
During such difficult times, there’s something to be said for the community spirit that these gatherings foster. Whether it’s the soothing hymns of „Amazing Grace“ or the supportive presence of loved ones, these customs serve as a reminder of the heritage we share. And for Lynda, there is indeed a vast network of family, friends, and acquaintances mourning her loss.
Ultimately, Lynda Runyon’s memory will live on through her family and friends, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit and legacy. While the days may bring sorrow, they also bring the celebration of a life beautifully lived.
