Deputies quickly gave chase as Jabari dashed alongside a high fence bordering a retention pond. After a brief pursuit, officers managed to catch up with him, but he denied having discarded the weapon. Earlier, the quartet had stolen a loaded AR-style pistol and another loaded handgun, along with a third stolen firearm from Marion County, just before the stop.

All four individuals were detained at the scene as investigations continued. A victim had reported that four men had stolen his two firearms and fled in a silver BMW SUV. During the investigation, the rifle-caliber pistol was discovered at the edge of the retention pond, while the other two handguns were found hidden under a seat in the vehicle.

Subsequently, Beckford, Hunter, Watson, and Reid were each charged with two counts of grand theft of firearms.
