Today is the 6.03.2026, and there’s a buzz in the air around Wakulla County as the community welcomes a new leader for its high school football program. Derek Allen Jr., a proud alumnus of Wakulla High School, has been selected as the new Head Football Coach of the War Eagles. With a strong background in sports education and coaching, Allen is ready to take the reins and guide the team into a new era.

Allen brings with him a Bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Florida A&M University (FAMU). He is also a certified physical education teacher, which highlights his commitment to both education and athletics. Before stepping into this role, he served as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Blountstown High School. Prior to that, he was the Wide Receivers Coach and Pass Game Coordinator at Harris County High School. His rich coaching experience equips him well for the challenges ahead.

The War Eagles have a legacy to uphold, as former coach Scott Klees concluded a remarkable 24-year tenure with 178 wins, leading the team to state championship games in 2011 and 2015. In his last season, the team reached the region quarterfinals of the Class 3A FHSAA state championships, finishing with a 6-5 record and a ranking of 170 in the Florida 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings. As Allen steps into this pivotal role, he aims to strengthen the connection with younger athletes, fostering a culture of teamwork and resilience.
