Another Case of Neglect
But wait, there’s more. Just days earlier, another incident occurred in Florida that has people shaking their heads. Luis Enrique Pesante, 35, from Key Largo, was arrested on July 5, 2026. He faces charges of child neglect after a 12-year-old child ended up hospitalized. What happened? The preteen was left unsupervised with a younger child, and they managed to get their hands on a THC vape pen. Just think about that for a second. The child ingested its contents and became incapacitated. Thankfully, the 12-year-old was able to call a relative, who then contacted 911. Paramedics rushed the child to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, where injuries were confirmed as not life-threatening. It’s a relief, but the fact that the narcotics were left accessible is just mind-boggling.
