Welcome to the vibrant community of Jacksonville Beach, where the excitement of the 78th annual “Opening of the Beaches” Parade is set to unfold! This beloved tradition, which began in the spring of 1925 following the renaming of Pablo Beach to Jacksonville Beach, promises a day filled with fun and festivities for locals and visitors alike.
The parade kicks off today, April 26, 2026, at 2:00 PM and is expected to last about an hour. Starting from the intersection of 5th Avenue North and 2nd Street, the parade will travel northward to 11th Avenue North before turning east towards the ocean. It will then head south down 1st Street until it concludes at Beach Boulevard. With an array of floats, marching bands, and community groups, this year’s parade is sure to be a spectacular celebration of our beautiful beaches.
Parking and Street Closures
If you’re planning to attend the parade, be aware that there will be some changes to traffic patterns and parking in the area. All municipal parking lots will open on April 25 (for a fee) but will close on April 26 at 6:00 AM. Parking will resume at 4:00 PM after the parade concludes, so plan accordingly. Streets from Beach Boulevard to 5th Avenue North, including 1st and 2nd Streets, will be closed starting at 9:30 AM to ensure safety during the event. Access will be limited to emergency vehicles only after the police closure.
For more details or to register for the parade, you can check out the Jacksonville Beach Website.
Weekend Events
The parade is just one highlight of a weekend filled with activities at Jacksonville Beach. It all kicks off with a Silent Disco tonight from 7 PM to 10 PM at the Jacksonville Beach Pier (503 1st St. N). For just $10 for adults and $5 for kids, you can dance the night away with wireless headphones. Don’t forget that a pier day pass is necessary, costing $2 for non-residents and $1 for locals.
Saturday features more fun with an official opening day that includes a fishing tournament on the pier from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, a volleyball tournament at 9 AM near 6th Avenue North, and the 47th annual Sandcastle competition at noon on the beach. The theme for the sandcastle competition this year is “Vacation,” and judging will take place at 2 PM.
